Theatre fans in Birmingham and beyond had best get their hankies and tissues at the ready this Christmas and New Year season as one of the most celebrated touring musical theatre productions of the year returns to the Midlands to see out 2013 and welcome in the New Year in the city's New Alexandra Theatre. Technically audacious and visually stunning, our previous review of this same touring production gave it a coveted 5 out of 5 stars, citing it as "Single-handedly the most ambitious, bombastically visceral and tirelessly inventive touring musical production[s] we've had the pleasure of experiencing.... an at-times breathtakingly dynamic and kinetic explosion and exploration of eye-candy and splendour".

The show tells the story of young lovers Sam (Stewart Clarke) and Molly (Rebecca Trehearn) as they are ripped apart by tragedy when Sam is murdered. Trapped as a spirit, he is forced to communicate with hilarious psychic Oda Mae Brown (Wendy Mae Brown) in order to protect Molly and bring his killer, and a greater criminal plot, to justice. Through a combination of terrific music, including the iconic 'Unchained Melody' which featured so famously in the original film, and some truly phenomenal production design and stage effects work, Ghost the Musical is a beautiful, delicate story told with supreme theatrical style and flair.

"It's a heart-wrenching tale of undying love that triumphs through adversity.... but underneath all that it's a thrilling tale of action and deceit and all sorts. It's a great show" said the show's lead, Stewart Clarke, local-lad-done-good, when we spoke to him earlier in the year about being involved in such a terrific production, and also getting the chance to bring it back to his roots here in the Midlands:

"It's nice, it's really nice. It's just lovely to be in a familiar place like Birmingham were we are right now. Coming into the Birmingham station and being there for work!"

Leading lady Rebecca Trehearn, who plays Molly, was similarly quick to sing the shows praises and the breadth of emotion and experience it delivers, encouraging fans of theatre and a good time as a whole to give it a visit:

"It's a timeless fantasy about the power of love, and there's some incredible illusions thrown into the bargain. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be blown away by the spectacle of it all and you'll have a really good night out! I look forward to being here [in Birmingham]!
